Lakeland Officials Association

PO Box 4

Waukesha WI 53187

As a member of the Lakeland Officials Association, started in 1959. You will be provided opportunities across a variety of activities and events to further your skills as an official. Our goal is to make our association a leader in developing quality sports officials by offering venues that foster unity and quality training among our membership. We do this through a variety of resources and encourage our members to participate in training classes, clinics, social events and more. Some of those events include,

LOA – Annual Banquet:

This event is held each November at a location in the Pewaukee / Waukesha area and allows our members an opportunity to spend an evening socializing with fellow members. The evening will start with a social hour followed by an awesome dinner. After dinner we move to our awards program which recognizes the many accomplishments of our outstanding member officials. Then we conduct the election of officers followed by our guest speaker. Each year we have a guest speaker with topics related to sports weather, its sports stories, sports training or humor. Over the years we have had some outstanding guest speakers such as, Steve the Homer True, ESPN Radio Host and Radio Voice of the Marquette Warriors Men’s Basketball team. Dan Needles, Channel 12 Sports Anchor and Sports Radio and Kent Sommerfeld, Engineer / Producer of Brewers radio broadcasts just to name a few.  This year will be no different with another quality speaker.

Clinics:

One of the benefits of being in the Lakeland Officials association is taking part in our clinics and classroom training. These sessions are designed to help our members improve their skills, network with fellow officials & game assignors as well as have the opportunity to be evaluated by our association trainer. These evaluations can help you achieve higher level games along with being recognized for consideration to state level games.

LOA Golf Outing:

As a member of the LOA, you are welcome to join us along with family and friends in our annual Greater LOA Golf Outing. This event is held each year in late Sept or early October at one of our Waukesha County Golf courses. It’s a great time and open to members and family and friends. Event will offer you 18 Holes of Golf, Cart, Dinner, Raffles and individual prizes.

Meetings:

One of the benefits of being a LOA member is taking part in our individual sport chair meetings. At these meetings we will review rules & rule changes, points of emphasis, mechanics and use video and other materials to assist in your development. Our goal is to obtain uniform interpretation of sports rules, improve officiating techniques, and to foster high standards of officiating. So whether you’re a new official or a savvy veteran, we will get you ready for the upcoming season. Classes are held for each of three sports seasonally offering 3 to 6 week courses and are held at Catholic Memorial High School. Those sports include, BaseballBasketball and Football.  As a member, you will be provided dates and times for all scheduled meetings and be welcome to attend our popular food & beverage socials. These socials are held for each of the three sports and are sponsored by the Association. It’s a great time and offers our members a chance to enjoy some great food & drink while advancing their skills and networking with fellow officials.

Scholarship Program:

The LOA is proud to be a Sponsor of the LOA Scholarship program which helps Waukesha County Student Athletes achieve their academic and athletic goals.  The program started in 1998 has contributed over $170,000.00 to Graduating High School students for their post-secondary, educational expenses. Our association committee meets each April to review applications from Waukesha County High School students. Applications are submitted through our association website or their individual high schools. Applications can be found by going to www.LakelandOfficialsAssociation.com and clicking on the Scholarship tab, then Application form. Should you need further information you can submit a contact us form located on our home page.

Special Promotions:

From time to time the association will sponsor special promotional events as a value add to our members and in some cases as fundraisers to help support ongoing association initiatives. Some examples are,

PAC Theatre Tickets Program – This promotion offers LOA members an opportunity to purchase theater tickets to plays presented by the PAC Theatre group. Members receive a discounted ticket and the association receives a partial donation from each ticket purchased.

Officials Recruitment Program – The LOA is actively looking for more ways than ever to actively recruit young new officials into the career of officiating. This can involve visiting local schools and conducting guest speaker presentations to selected groups of students. It can also involve fundraising events to help with costs associated with marketing, transportation, advertising and other essential materials to assist with our recruitment effort.

Merchandising – From time to time we run a merchandising program to allow our members an opportunity to purchase products with the LOA Logo either embroidered or silk screened on their apparel items. It’s a great way to expose our brand for advertising purposes and allows us to demonstrate our pride in the LOA. These items are also great at shows and games as well and make great gifts and or awards.

Training & Equipment

One of our goals is to offer our members the latest and most up to date training materials. This can range from online video conferencing, rules books, case study manuals, video training CD’s, clinics and classroom instruction. All of our members are provided an opportunity to join the (NFHS) National Federation of High School Sports along with the (WIAA) Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association. These two groups provide training materials, education, licensing, updated rules and testing.

We also have selected equipment vendor agreements, which allow our members access to discounted officiating equipment. So if there’s anything you need to be ready for the next game. We can help or point you in the right direction.
