LAKELAND OFFICIALS’ ASSOCIATION

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

5-17-23

Who We Are.
The Lakeland Officials Association which was founded in 1959 and is based in Waukesha County. Our mission is to help support athletics at all levels be it youth, high school, college, semi pro or recreational sports in our communities. Our purpose is to provide quality sports officials, trained in the uniform interpretation of sports rules, proper mechanics as well as promote, a safe and high standard of play through sportsmanship. Although our main emphasis is on Baseball, Basketball & Football. We also support Track & Field, Volleyball and Soccer. Over the past two years we have seen a reduction of over 3500 sports officials in Wisconsin alone, So, recruitment and support of sports officials is vital, if we are ever to return to the number of officials needed, to support all the youth sporting events.

LOA Scholarship Program
However, as important as recruitment is, we recognized we could play a big part in helping support student athletes as well. So, in 1998 we started the LOA Scholarship Fund to recognize individuals who have demonstrated unique athletic and scholastic achievements as well as impressive character skills. It’s a great way to give back to our local communities and be proud of our student athletes’ accomplishments. Since 1998, the Lakeland Officials Association has donated over $200,000.00 in scholarships to senior student athletes within Waukesha
County, who are planning on attending College or a Technical School. The eight scholarships we provide each year go to selected Waukesha County High School, Student Athletes. These scholarships are funded

by officials who voluntarily donate a portion of their pay throughout the year, solely to give back to the kids, sports, schools, and communities they played in, attended, or lived in.
So, each year, candidates are selected by our scholarship panel from the many applications we receive. Awards are based on factors such as GPA, sports participation, clubs, and volunteer activities as well as work history to name a few. In keeping with this tradition, this year’s award winners will be chosen during our May 2024 application review and presented to each award winner at their individual school commencement ceremonies.
